Mission: wolf Sanctuary
Explore Rami’s World
Mission: Wolf Sanctuary is located in the remote wilderness of the southern Colorado Rocky Mountains. The sanctuary was created for the purpose of rescuing wolves and wolf-dog crosses that, having been born in captivity or imprinted by humans, cannot survive in the wild. It is home to about 40 captive wolves that are allowed the opportunity to live their lives in as near a wild environment as is possible. The mission of the refuge is “Education vs Extinction” which involves education at the refuge for visitors as well as taking the message across the country as it tours in a bus with the wolf ambassadors.
The mission of the sanctuary also promotes sustainable living and serves as an example by being fully sustainable. Solar powered electricity, passive solar buildings built with recycled materials, organic greenhouses, and vehicles fueled with recycled vegetable oil are examples of measures taken to conserve natural resources and to leave as small a footprint on the land as possible. With only a small paid staff, Mission: Wolf is maintained by grants, donations and dedicated volunteers.
The ultimate goal of Mission: Wolf is to go out of business because there are no more captive wolves to rescue. They are all living free in the wilderness where they belong.
